"I determined to write about the memories of my life as I reflected upon the many things I experienced during the eleven years I spent growing up in Okinawa. I am especially thankful to my relatives who, in place of my own parents, took me in and raised me with a tremendous amount of love. I recall with fondness the friends I had during my youth. I write of my life in Hawaii since my return at seventeen years of age. I also wanted to express my love and appreciation for my wife who has been with me these many years, and to my eight children, grandchildren, and great grand children. As I reflected upon these precious memories, the words flowed from my pen onto paper"--From Preface.
